About Us

Why Choose Us

Ronald Singer, O.D. has been providing quality, unhurried eyecare in the West Valley for over 40 years.  We are committed to delivering personalized, thorough examinations.  We maintain a large selection of fashion eyewear and contact lenses.  We are also able to treat dry eye, infections, allergies and superficial injuries to the eye.  Whether you require simple reading glasses or the latest invisible bifocals, we are happy to discuss your options. You are cordially invited to visit, look around and ask any questions that you might have.

Insurance Plans Accepted

We accept many vision plans (VSP, Medical Eye Services, Eyemed, MetLife Vision, UFCW Local 770 and 1036,  and others), and can usually give you an appointment for the same day or week.

About Your Eye Examination

When you arrive we will introduce ourselves and then ask you to fill out a brief patient registration form, and any insurance forms.  Then we will ask if you are having any problems with your eyes, inquire as to any special work, safety or computer requirements, and take a thorough health history.  Please bring your eyeglasses and or contact lenses, and have a list of any medications you are currently taking, along with any drug allergies you might have.  We will measure your vision and eyeglasses and perform a careful refraction to determine your new prescription.  Automated instrumentation is also used to help determine your Rx, side vision and eye pressures.  Each eye examination includes a careful screening for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.  We work closely with several renowned eye specialists, and can refer you for advanced treatment or refractive surgery, if needed.  We are committed to maintaining vision and eye health, which is vital to the quality of life.

See the Difference

Dr. Ronald M. Singer. O.D.
I attended CSUN and received my Doctor of Optometry degree from The Illinois College of Optometry.  I enjoy getting to know my patients and believe that eye care is much more than 20/20 vision.  My special interest is photography of the eye, and the inherent challenges of capturing optically transparent structures. Outside of the office, I have performed on the clarinet, flute and saxophone with Aaron Copland, Liza Minelli, Tony Martin, The Fifth Dimension, Pat Boone, Rosemary Clooney, Frankie Avalon and countless others.  I also entertained at parties for Frank Sinatra, several former presidents, Cary Grant, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones and numerous others.  I am also the co-founder of SR Technologies, a manufacturer of saxophone mouthpieces distributed internationally.  As an apheresis donor at the American Red Cross, I made more than 150 donations.  I try to exercise, practice and study foreign language every day, and welcome Spanish and French speakers to the practice. When my Parisian wife disciplines our Jack Russell Terrier in French, neither of us understands her!

What to Bring to Your Next Eye Exam

A Stopwatch???????????

When "shopping" for an eye exam, be sure to ask not only price, but how long the doctor will be spending with you. We typically schedule 60 minutes per patient.  Other offices spend as little as 10-15 minutes!!!  Will there be any discussion of eye protection and nutrition? Will pupillary dilation be performed at no extra charge, or will you be told there is an extra "fee".  Will you be asked to pay extra for eye photos? Also ask how long the doctor has been practicing at that location.  Will he or she still be there to perform your next exam, or will they be long gone?

Fashion Eyewear and Lenses We stock a large selection of fashion eyewear to fit any face, budget and age group. We will assist you in selecting the ideal eyewear for your needs and lifestyle. We offer the latest in thin, safety, change color, and invisible bifocals. We are also happy to discuss the advantages of anti-reflection, change color and fashion tints.

We work with some of the finest cataract, refractive surgeons and retinal specialists in Los Angeles.  When needed we are happy to get you or a family member a prompt referral and appointment with any of these eye specialists.

Laser Eye Surgery Services

LASIK Surgery

We offer consultations for LASIK surgery, a type of refractive surgery that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. We refer to surgeons using the latest, advanced laser technologies to reshape the cornea and improve vision.

PRK Surgery

PRK surgery is another type of refractive surgery that corrects vision. It is ideal for patients with thin corneas or those who are not candidates for LASIK. The referral surgeons use a special laser to remove the outer layer of the cornea and reshape it for improved vision.

Custom LASIK

Custom LASIK is a personalized version of LASIK surgery that uses advanced wavefront technology to create a detailed map of the eye. This map is used to guide the laser during surgery, resulting in a highly precise and individualized procedure.

Bladeless LASIK

Bladeless LASIK, also known as all-laser LASIK, uses a femtosecond laser instead of a microkeratome blade to create the corneal flap. This results in a safer and more precise procedure with fewer complications and a faster recovery time.

Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive lens exchange is a type of vision correction surgery that replaces the eye's natural lens with an artificial one. This is ideal for patients with extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, or those who have developed cataracts.

London

I met my wife right where this photo was taken.  The story really is quite romantic UNLESS you are from Paris, in which case its effects are subdued, much like Kryptonite has on that Super comic book character...... More about that later!

When I wander along Carnaby Street, I wonder what the swinging 1960's were REALLY like!  I would love to travel back in time, and experience that explosion of art, music and fashion!
